Leonard James Mangum, Jr. born August 4, 1926 in Holyoke, MA, succumbed to a long term illness Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, in Landrum, SC He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn K. Mangum, his parents Mr. & Mrs. Leonard J. Mangum, Sr., his brothers, Jonathan and David Mangum and a sister, Mrs. Patricia Constatinano who lived in Boston, MA. Mr. Mangum was an Army Air Corp flyer during WW II in the European Campaign. After the war, he attended McGill Fordham University where he studied journalism. He worked as an advertising executive for the San Francisco Times, The New York Telegram, The Bowie Blade & finally the Herald Journal. He was of the Christian Faith.
He is survived by his brother Mr. Barry Mangum of Culpepper, VA, Mr. Jeffery Mangum of Sacramento, CA, his sons, Mr. Mark A Mangum of Spartanburg, SC, Mr. Adam A Mangum of Phoenix, AZ, Mr. Paul A Mangum of Spartanburg, SC, Mr. & Mrs. Andrew P Mangum & family of Inman, SC, his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth B. Manzolillo & family of Mt. Airy, MD.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, One Intrepid Square, W. 46th St. & 12th Ave., New York, N. Y. 10036
