Leon Delburs Bond, Jr. , 86, of Inman went home to be with his Lord on February 16, 2010. He had been lovingly cared for at Smith Phayer Hospice House in Landrum during the last week of his life. He had been in failing health since the death of his beloved wife, Beatrice Ellis Bond on May 4,2008. He had served in the U. S. Coast Guard in S.C. and Hawaii during WW II. In 1943 he met his future wife while serving on Daufuskie Island, S. C. They married in 1946 sharing the next 62 years. In 1989 he retired from Greensboro, N. C., as a city lake warden. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1970 and lived his life for Him. He loved people and helped others whenever he was needed. He was a member of Living Water Community Church where he loved and prayed for the members and pastor. Favorite scriptures included John 3:16; "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life".
He is survived by a brother, David W. Bond and his wife, Gwen of Summerville, S.C.; daughter, Nancy Smith and her husband, James of Inman; daughter, Beatrice Pifer and her husband, Jim of Pawleys Island; grandson, Jamie Smith and his wife, Katie of Greer; grand daughter, Kathy Jackson and her husband, Stephen of Inman; great grandsons, Chris and Tyler Jackson; great grand daughter, Hannah Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, February 21,2010 at Living Water Community Church at 2:00 PM. Pastor Frank Bryant will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Living Water Community Church, 9150 Asheville Hwy., Boiling Springs, S.C., 29316.
The family will be at the home of Nancy and James Smith in Inman.
John 11: 25-26...Jesus said, "He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; and whosoever lives and believes in Me will never die".
