Lawrence Orr Gilbert

Spartanburg, SC--- Lawrence Orr Gilbert, Jr., 84, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born in Anderson, S C on October 15, 1931, he was a son of the late Lawrence Orr Gilbert, Sr. and Etrulia (Junkins) Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War Era. He was a member of First Baptist North Spartanburg, Masonic Lodge member, Shriner and VFW Post 9539, retired from Robert W. Wise Associates in White Stone and also worked with the Department of Corrections as a corrections officer. He is survived by one son, Thomas L. Gilbert of Anderson, SC; one daughter, Karen T. Melton of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Bobbie Moss of Loganville, GA and four nieces, Debbie Flowers (Bill) of Gumlog, GA, Theresa Sutton (Mike) of Dacula, GA, Donna Howard of Gainsville, FL and Julie Melinger of Houston, TX. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son, Timothy Gilbert and one brother, Rudolph Gilbert. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 1:00 - 1:45 PM at Seawright Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Seawright Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Michael Hamlet officiating. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard will be in Fort Prince Memorial Gardens in Wellford, SC.
