Kurtis Paul "Kurt" Ponder, 37, of Wellford, South Carolina, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Kurt was born in Greer, South Carolina on July 16, 1984, a son of Kathy Maybury Ponder and the late, Kenneth Earl Ponder.
Mr. Ponder was a 2003 graduate of Chapman High School, an employee with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, and a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. He was also a former volunteer with the Holly Springs Fire Department, and an avid fisherman and hunter.
Kurt is survived by his mother, Kathy Maybury Ponder, Of Campobello, South Carolina;
a daughter, Brooke Elise Ponder, of Inman, South Carolina; a son, Kyle Robert Ponder, of Inman, South Carolina; step daughter, Taylor Stockton, of Piedmont, South Carolina; step son, Dale Black, of Duncan, South Carolina; and his fiancée, Kelly Dianne Jones of Wellford, South Carolina. He is also survived by two sisters, Katy Megan Ponder, of Greer, South Carolina; Kelly Ponder Reaves and her husband, Andy, of Inman, South Carolina; nephew, Charlie Brackett of Inman, South Carolina; maternal grandmother, Marty Marler of Wellford, South Carolina; and numerous other family members and friends.
In addition to his father, Mr. Ponder was predeceased by a brother, Kyle Warren Ponder; his paternal grandparents, Paul and Faye Ponder; and his maternal grandfather, Charles Marler.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 23, 2021, at Holly Springs Baptist Church, conducted by, Dr. Tim Clark. A private interment will follow. The family will receive friends, following all services, in the sanctuary at Holly Springs Baptist Church.
The family is at the home, of his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Marty Marler.
