Junior Johnson, Jr.
Gettys "Junior" Johnson, Jr., 76, of 176 Brookview Drive, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. Junior was born in Spartanburg County, South Carolina on February 21, 1941, a son of the late Gettys Johnson and Marie Pruitt Johnson. He was the husband of Jill Newman Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a retired sheriffs deputy with the Spartanburg County Sheriffs office, a member of Inman Mills Baptist Church and served in the South Carolina National Guard. Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons Joseph Bell, of Campobello, South Carolina; Jon Bell and his wife, Ashley, of Inman, South Carolina; a brother, Jimmy Johnson, of New Prospect, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Rebecca Johnson, Michael Johnson and his wife, Barbara, Leah Duncan and her husband, Jared, Ella Bell and Drake Bell; nine great-grandchildren, Layla Dill, Delilah Dill, Kinsley Thacker, Isaac Thacker, Tripp Johnson, Skylar Johnson, Arya Johnson, Marlee Duncan and Emma Duncan. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was predeceased by a son, Michael Todd Johnson. A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2017, from 2:30 PM until 3:30 PM at Inman Mills Baptist Church. A memorial service will follow at Inman Mills Baptist Church at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, conducted by Rev. Jack Hames. Memorials may be made to, Inman Mills Baptist Church Building Fund, 22 B Street, Inman, South Carolina 29349 or the American Cancer Society, 154 Mile Stone Way, Greenville, SC 29615. The family is at his home.
