Judith Elizabeth Somero

Judith Elizabeth Somero (Marin), born January 10, 1953, passed away March 26, 2026. A daughter of the late Elsa (Mattila) and Uuno Marin. She was the wife of John Somero.

Her survivors include two daughters, Eeva Zelinski (Jason) and Anja Kern (Scott); a son Andrew Somero; eleven grandchildren; a sister, Sally Barney and a brother, Philip Marin. She was predeceased by a brother Paul Marin.

Judy was known for her deep and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ which guided every part of her life. Her love for others extended far beyond her family and friends. She had a heart for all people, including those she had never met. She lived with a servant’s spirit and a calling to care for those in need.

She was the founder of Tabitha’s Pantry, a ministry dedicated to feeding the hungry and supporting those in need. Through this work and many others, she made a lasting impact in her community and beyond. Her passion for missions led her to serve in countries including Congo, Haiti, Romania, Mexico, and Israel, where she shared her faith and helped those less fortunate. Her life was a testimony of God’s faithfulness, having been miraculously healed from cancer. She testified of this as a witness of hope and to give encouragement to others.

She found joy in both the simple and adventurous moments of life. She loved walking, often taking the dogs, with the cats following along behind them. She enjoyed gardening, reading, singing and sewing, even winning a sewing competition. She was a gifted baker, known especially for her Danish Puff and pasties, which she lovingly shared with family, friends, and anyone who walked through the door. She embraced adventure alongside her husband, moving and serving wherever they felt called. Together, they created a home that was always open, a place where anyone in need could find a meal, a bed, and the love of Christ.

She found great joy in bringing people together in faith. She regularly hosted Tuesday prayer meetings, opening their home with food, love, and a welcoming space for worship and prayer.

Above all, Judy deeply loved her family. She was a proud and active Aiti who brought fun and energy into her grandchildren’s lives—whether it was going down waterslides, sledding, water tubing, and ball games, she was always right there with them. She was a devoted and loving wife who faithfully cared for and supported her husband.

Judy leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, generosity, and service that will continue to live on in all who knew her.

We will miss her deeply, especially that Bostonian accent, but we rejoice knowing she is whole, healed, and at peace with her Savior. Her love will remain with us always.

Visitation will be held at Seawright Funeral Home on April 9, 2026 from 1:00 until 1:45 PM. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Bob Aho officiating. Burial will be in Wood Memorial Park in Duncan, SC.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
