Joseph Allen Wyse, 85, of 32 Nichols Dr. passed away at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center on March 9, 2013 after a long illness.
A native of Spartanburg, Joe was the husband of Virginia Rhodes Wyse( Tryon, NC) for 60 years and a resident of Inman since 1953. He was the son of the late Frederick C. and Elizabeth Hennies Wyse of Spartanburg and Columbia.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters Boyne Key (Danny) of Christiansburg, VA; Laura Ward (George) of Inman and Anne Thackston (Keith) of Simpsonville; and son Jody (Millie) of Inman; nine grandchildren--Benjamin Key (Jessica) of Mobile, AL: Megan Key Korner (John) of Arlington, VA; George Ward III and Elizabeth Ward of Inman ; Christopher Ward of Greenville; Jim Thackston (Jennifer) of Clemson; Leigh Thackston Paxton (Kyle) of Knoxville, TN; Elise Wyse Deaton (Patrick) of Boiling Springs; and Claire Wyse of Inman; and two great-grandsons. He was predeceased by a brother, Fred Wyse of McLean, VA and two sisters, Betsy Anderson and Barbara Wyse of Columbia.
Joe graduated from Spartanburg High School and Clemson A&M College. He played basketball for Clemson until joining the Navy. As a veteran of WW II, he returned to Clemson to complete his degree in Textile Engineering. He worked 43 years until retirement for Inman Mills. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Spartanburg.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 12 at 2:00 PM at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman conducted by Pastor Michael Shackelford. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 1:00 PM at the graveside. The family is at the home. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 415 S.
