Joseph Lamar McDowell, Jr. passed away Monday, January 29, 2018, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. McDowell was born in New Prospect, SC on February 28, 1932 and was a son of the late Joseph Lamar McDowell Sr. and Almina Corn McDowell. He was the husband of Ruby Russell McDowell and were celebrating 66 years of marriage. Mr. McDowell was a member of Spartanburg First Baptist Church and was a deacon and member of the Al Clark Sunday School Class. He had retired from Sears after 40 years of dedicated service.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his two daughters, Phyllis Howard and her husband Bill of Inman, SC, Beverly Stokes and her husband David of Seneca, SC, two sisters, Elsie Poteat and her husband Junior and Lucile Terry, There are two grandchildren, Michael Stokes and his wife Sarah of Elkton, Maryland and Joseph Stokes of Greenville, SC. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Naomi McDowell and Peggy McDowell. There are also numerous nieces and nephews. Mr McDowell was predeceased by three brothers, Carl, Larry and Wayne McDowell.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 2, 2018 from 11:00 to 11:50 AM. at Seawright Funeral Home with funeral services following in the Seawright Funeral Chapel at 12 Noon conducted by Rev. Sal Barone. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Inman, SC
