Joseph "Joey" Dayton Mathis, 54, of 7912 Asheville Highway, Spartanburg, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020 at Spartanburg Medical Center, after an extended illness.
Joey was born in Spartanburg on November 22, 1965, a son of the late Betty Loftis Mathis and Dayton D Mathis. He had worked for Spartanburg County and was a member of West Spartanburg Baptist Church. Joey loved riding his bike and was a member of the Warlocks Motorcycle Club. The family extends grateful thanks to club member Doug Scarborough.
Joey is survived by his sister, Lynn Mathis Lancaster of Spartanburg; a nephew, Dayton Clayton and his wife, Jackie, of Inman; a great niece, Gracelynn; and a great nephew, Tyler.
A memorial service will be held at the home of his nephew, Dayton at 6230 New Cut Road in Inman, Friday, October 9, 2020 at 6:00 PM. The family is at the home, 7912 Asheville Highway, Spartanburg.
