Joseph Earl "Joe" Proffitt, 82, of 1705 Skylyn Drive, Spartanburg died Friday, January 31, 2014 at Magnolia Manor of Inman. A native of Richland, VA, he was a son of the late Thomas and Ella Keen Proffitt. He was a member of New Cut Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, SC where he had served as elder. He was a mason and served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Jean Ford Proffitt of Spartanburg, two daughters; Gail Tennyson of Spartanburg, Robbie Satterfield of Inman; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. A memorial service will be Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 2:00 PM at New Cut Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Wayne Dickson. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to New Cut Presbyterian Church Building Fund 1923 New Cut Church Rd. Lancaster, SC 29720, Hospice Compassus 1923 E.
