Jona Pinkney "Pete" Dale, 99, formerly of Mt Zion Rd, Spartanburg, left this Earth to be with his Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Autumn Care Nursing Home in Saluda, NC. He was born in Forest City, NC on August 29, 1918, a son of the late Nancy Kelly Dale and Samuel Dale and he was the widower of Ema Lola "Pat" Mask Dale, with whom he had been married for 65 years. He served in The Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) during the great depression. He retired from Mayfair Mills in 1985 with 35 years of service and upon his retirement started a lawn care business which he pursued for another 25 years. For many years he was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Pete is survived by three sons; Donald Dale of Port Arthur, TX, Barry Dale of Campobello, Roger Dale (Saundra) of Spartanburg; two daughters, Linda Thomason (Ed, deceased) of Spartanburg, Darlene Osteen (Tony) of Inman; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Pete was predeceased by a son, Larry Dale; a grandson, Greg Dale, brothers; James Dale, Cletus Dale, and Benjamin Dale. He was the last survivor of his immediate family. The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends Wednesday 1:00 until 1:45 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 27th, with Rev. Rob Gouge and Rev. Monty King officiating. Burial will follow in Ft Prince Memorial Gardens.
