John Terrell Wilkins, Jr.

John Terrell Wilkins, Jr, 96, of Inman, SC, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Lakewood Senior Living/Memory Care in Boiling Springs.

John was born at Cannons Campground in Spartanburg County on July 21, 1925, the son of the late John Terrell Wilkins, Sr and Belle (Bennett) Wilkins and was the husband of Doris (Brown) Wilkins.

He was a life member of Inman First Baptist Church, a graduate of Georgia Military College and part owner of Wilkins and McMillin Lumber Company. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWll and was a member of American Legion Post #45 for 75 years.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by two daughters, Jayne Wilkins Hammett (Ted) and Frances Wilkins, two grandsons, Dr. Bennett T. Hammett and John Phillip Gunter (Megan); four great grandchildren, Allison Jane and Caroline Paige Hammett, John Turnbull and Leo Wilkins Gunter; one niece, Julie Williams.

He was also predeceased by two sisters, Meriel Woodward and Jane Bishop.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM at Seawright Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Seawright Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Paul Moore officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: American Legion Post #45 Baseball Scholarship Fund in memory of John T. Wilkins, Jr. at PO Box 45, Inman, SC 29349 or to the charity of your choice.

The Wilkins Family would like to thank the caregivers at Lakewood Senior Living Memory Care and Halcyon Hospice for the loving care and attention they gave to John and gratitude to Mr. Art Allum for being a dedicated friend.
