Heaven gained another angel Friday morning. John Richard Nix went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ peacefully at his home January 3, 2014. John was the son of the late John Durant and Lorena Owens Nix and is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 42 years, June Butters Nix.
Other survivors include his children, Lynn Sims (Mike), Sharlene Wager (Bill), Tony Haney (Deb), Michelle Bridges (Mike), Todd Haney (Shelley), Michael Haney (Anita), and John Serpas. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews including a beloved niece, Wanda Spearman. Other survivors include two brothers, Leonard Nix (Mary) and Delano Nix (Joanna). He was predeceased by brothers, Charles Nix, Kenneth Nix, and sisters, Joyce Spearman and Margaret Beason.
John loved Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was devoted to his family and his country. He served in the US Navy for 20 years and was a deacon, prayer warrior and loved serving the Lord. He had retired from Westinghouse in Spartanburg, SC.
John will be greatly missed by his church family, many friends and his family who he was so devoted to throughout his life. He was truly a blessing to many.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 3:00 PM with Rev. Monty King and Rev. Rob Gouge officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the church sanctuary. The deacons and former deacons are to serve as Honorary Escort. Military Rites will be performed by the Rutherford County Honor Guard .
The family will be at the home at 209 Doris Ann Ct., Wellford, SC.
