John Louis McBride, Sr, 90, of 785 Old Melvin Hill Road Campobello, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Spartanburg Medical Center.
John was born in Ossian, Indiana on January 4, 1934, a son of the late Bertha Kumfer Harris and Harold McBride and was the widower of Joycelyn Elizabeth Planas McBride.
He first retired from the United States Air Force with over 20 years of service, then spent 20 years at Pizza Inn and the Play Factory in Spartanburg before starting his business, Handyman Mac.
He was a member of United Methodist Church of the Covenant in Spartanburg where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and was a former trustee. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. John was a devoted husband and father; he loved God and his country. He was a kind and true friend.
Survivors include four daughters, Jodie Walker and her husband, Steve, of Campobello, Jackie McBride of Boiling Springs, Joni Adams of Spartanburg, Janie Swink of Duncan, a son, John Louis McBride Jr of Alaska, a granddaughter raised in the home, Amy Andrus of Moore, nine grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at United Church of the Covenant, 9020 Asheville Highway, Spartanburg. An inurnment service with military honors will follow at 2:00 PM at Good Shepherd Memorial Park on Highway 9, Boiling Springs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled Amercian Veterans 301 N Campus Blvd, Spartanburg, SC 29303, or United Methodist Church of the Covenant 9020 Asheville Highway, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29316.
