Mr. John Thurmon Downey, 77, of 193 Holden Rd. Inman passed away, Saturday, September 29th, 2007 at his residence.
Mr. Downey was born February 20, 1930, he was the son of the late Roland Thomas and Millie Wyatt Downeyand was the husband of Essie McCraw Downey.
He retired from Startex Finishing and was a member of Lake Cooley Baptist Church where he was a member of the Senior Citizens Sunday School class.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Okinawa, Japan.
In addition to his wife, Essie he is also survived by two sons Steve Downey and his wife Regina B. of Moore and Ray Downey and his wife Regina M. of Inman, one daughter Nancy Burgess and her husband Lloyd of Inman and one sister Maudie Johnson of Saluda, NC along with nine grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers Claudie, Henry and Defoy Downey.
Funeral services will be held at Seawright Funeral Home at 3 PM on Monday, October 1 st, with Rev. Joe White officiating. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
The family is at the home and will receive friends Sunday 5-7:00 PM at Seawright Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of SC 110 Dillon Dr. Spartanburg, SC 29307.
