John Dean Dempsey, 70, of 65 Melvin Hill Road, Campobello, passed away Wednesday, September 4th, 2013 at his residence after a long and heroic battle with leukemia. Born January 20, 1943 and a native of the Holly Springs Community, he was a son of the late Daniel Dean Dempsey and Marie Burnett Dempsey. He was the husband of Kay Wilson Dempsey. He was retired from FedEx Freight, a member of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church, and a member of New Prospect Masonic Lodge # 143.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Mark Dempsey and wife, DeAnna of Moore; three brothers, Don Dempsey (Jeanette) and Dennis Dempsey (Sue) of Taylors, Marion Dempsey (Lou) of Inman; two sisters, Betty Bayne of Greer, Latricia Murray (Steiner) of Lyman; and two granddaughters, Brittany and Kayla Dempsy of Moore. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Dempsey and maternal grandparents, W.L. and Estelle Burnette.
The family is at the home and will receive friends Friday 11:00 - 12:30 at Seawright Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at Seawright Funeral Chapel at 12:30 PM on Friday, September 6th, 2013 conducted by Rev. Joe Dempsey. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman. The family would like to especially thank Sharmila Mehta, MD, Heather Hinds, PA, Vicki Newman, RN, and all of the nurses and staff of the Inpatient Oncology Unit and Infusion Center of Gibbs Cancer Center.
