- John E. Bottsford, Jr., M.D. ,83, of 1003 Seven Springs Rd. passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 in SRMC Hospice Home after losing a brave battle with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia. Dr. Bottsford was born in Madison, Wisconsin on October 6, 1935. He was the son of the late John E. Bottsford, Sr. and Maybelle Laura Shadel Bottsford. He is also predeceased by his stepmother the late Thelma L. Drapier.
John was the beloved husband of Jane Golightly Bottsford and devoted father to John E. Bottsford, III of Etowah, N.C., Bradley Bottsford, and Janna Bottsford of Spartanburg. He is survived by his brother, Bruce Bottsford (Edith) of Lincoln, Nebraska, two sisters, Dolores Tollefson and Alice Cronick (Gary) both of Madison, Wisconsin, granddaughter, Cindel B. Chavers (Nick) of N.C. great-grandchildren, Marcus and Lily Chavers, niece, Lisa Tuell (Wyatt) of Nebraska, nephews, Justin Bottsford-Miller, M.D. (Nicole) of Montana and Mark Tollefson (Kathy) of Wisconsin, Gerald Little (Loxley) and Anita Little of Wisconsin and Sandy Tyler (Forrest) of Maryland, along with many other relatives, colleagues and friends.
John was loved by so many people who knew him professionally, through his church and in the communities he lived in. A graduate of Loma Linda School of Medicine, he touched the lives of patients for 50 years in California, Wisconsin, South Carolina and as a missionary in Taiwan. He pioneered peripheral vascular surgery and was a beloved professor and mentor to surgeons. He was a faithful servant of Christ and believed that it was a privilege to serve others. Above all, he loved his family, and they in turn loved him. Special thanks to Ronnie and Jean George, Herb Neely and Amedysis Hospice.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 2:00 - 3:45 in the Colburn Fellowship Hall of the Spartanburg Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1217 John B. White Sr. Blvd . A Celebration of His life will be held at 4:00 PM in the church sanctuary conducted by Pastor Jerry LaFave and Mr. Brad Durby. A reception will be held in the gymnasium following the service.
