Jimmy Wayne "Mogee" McGinn, 73, of Cowpens Pacolet Road, passed away Tuesday, November 20th, at his residence.
Jimmy was born in Spartanburg on November 24, 1944, a son of the late Grace Jones and James Ernest McGinn. He graduated from Pacolet High School before serving in the US Navy where he last served aboard the USS IWO JIMA as an aviation ordnanceman. He was a great father and grandfather who loved horses, sports, racing, tinkering with old cars, and spending time with his grandchildren who brought him so much joy. Mogee retired from SCDOT and had also worked for D & R Builders and was the former owner of Mogee's Place in Pacolet. He was a faithful member of Hammett Grove Baptist Church where he was the "go to guy" to get things done; He was very generous to the less fortunate and was always willing to contribute to organizations to help others.
He is survived by two sons; Travis McGinn and Allen McGinn, both of Boiling Springs, a brother; Vince McGinn of Spartanburg, two cousins; Jane Snapp and her husband David of Whitestone, David Foster of Whitestone, two grandchildren; Jacob McGinn of Boiling Springs, Alanna Dagerhardt and her mother, Patricia Dagerhardt of Pacolet. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a sister, Patricia Hensley.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 25th at Hammett Grove Baptist Church, 651 Hammett Grove Road, conducted by Rev. Clint Phillips and Rev. David Sellers. Interment in the church cemetery will be private.
