Jane Wilkins Bishop
Obituary
Jane Wilkins Bishop, 98, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away surrounded by her family at home on Sunday, February 7, 2021. Jane was born on August 6, 1922, and is the daughter of John Terrell Wilkins and Belle Bennett Wilkins. She is survived by a daughter, Julie Bishop Williams, and her husband Edward Eugene Williams, III; grandson John Bishop Ravenel; granddaughter Jane Vitré Stephens and her husband Charles Albert Stephens, and grandchildren Charles Albert Stephens, Jr. and Whitner Wilson Ravenel Stephens; brother, John Terrell Wilkins, Jr. and his wife, Doris Wilkins, and two nieces; along with many other extended family and friends. Jane was preceded in death by her father and mother; sister, Meriel Woodward; and her husband of 43 years, Woodrow Wilson Bishop.
Jane was raised in Inman, South Carolina, where she later served her community as a District One school teacher and was active in the Inman community, including at the Inman First Baptist Church. After her retirement as a teacher and the passing of her husband over three decades ago, Jane moved to the Lowcountry to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Though her great loves were her family, friends, and church community, Jane positively influenced everyone whose lives she touched. Despite the loss of many loved ones in her nearly 100 year life, she never stopped making new friends and was celebrated on her 98th birthday in 2020 by friends and family spanning almost a century. Jane's great hopes were the dreams of her family and friends. Her greatest joy was seeing God answer her prayers for others. A steadfast follower of Christ and member of the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, she leaves many grieving loved ones behind, but is redeemed by her living Savior and united to her eternal family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Seawright Funeral Home, Inman SC 29349, to be followed by private burial.
For her friends and church community in the Lowcountry, a memorial service will be on Thursday, February 18th at 11:30 a.m. at the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 302 Hibben Street, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
