James "Jimmie" Newton Maxwell, 83, of Inman, SC, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended and courageous battle with pulmonary disease. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law and friend to many. He was the husband of the late Norma (Jean) Foster Maxwell. Born in Inman, SC on Thursday, July 29, 1937, he was the son of the late James Albert and Louise (Bishop) Maxwell. He was the owner and proprietor of Maxwell's Garage for 47 years. He was also employed at Mascot Homes in their maintenance shop until retirement. He was a member of Inman First Baptist Church, Inman Masonic Lodge No. 201, and a founding member of the Inman Rescue Squad and Inman Community Volunteer Fire Department. He was in the first graduating class of Chapman High School in 1955. Survivors include a son, Keith Maxwell (Donna); son-in-law, Michael Henson (Caroline); two grandchildren, Ashley Ballard (Tim) and Jamie Maxwell (Allie); four great grandchildren, Reeves, Lynlee Kate, Paisley, and Grady; his loving companion Margaret Henson and his beloved pet "Toby". He was predeceased by a son, James Ray Maxwell; daughter Kimberly Henson and brother Jerry Allen Maxwell. Cryptside and Mausoleum Encryptment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Inman, SC, Sunday, May 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM with Dr Paul Moore officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amanda Martinez Scholarship Fund ℅ Spartanburg County Foundation; Jim Everhart Scholarship Fund ℅ Spartanburg County Foundation (424 East Kennedy Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302) or Mobile Meals of Spartanburg (PO Box 461 Spartanburg, SC 29304).
