J. W. "Bill" Cheek
James William "Bill" Cheek, 88, of 1241 John Dodd Road, Spartanburg, SC, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Bill was born in Spartanburg, SC on July 31, 1926, a son of the late Broadus Earl and Erselle (Quinn) Cheek. He was the widower of Mary Doyle (Childers) Cheek.
He retired from the South Carolina Tax Commission and was former owner/operator of Inman Tire, was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was the oldest living past Master of the Spartan Masonic Lodge #70. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in WW II. Bill is survived by two sons Sammy Cheek (Kathy), of Florence, SC; Jim Cheek (Nancy), of Spartanburg, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and son-in-law Jan Smith. He was predeceased by two daughters, Suzanne Cheek Feger and Mary Lynn Cheek Smith. A memorial service will be held at Seawright Funeral Chapel, Inman, SC, at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 2nd, with Rev. Monty King officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 842 Mt Zion Road Spartanburg, SC 29303.
