J. Harold Johnson, 77, a retired Sergeant Major with the United States Army, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at his residence in Montgomery, New York. Mr. Johnson was born on July 26, 1938, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, a son of the late Horace McKinley Johnson and Nettie Lee Johnson. He was the husband of Loretta Y. Johnson.
Mr. Johnson served in the United States Army for 26 years, having attained the rank of Sergeant Major. He also worked and retired from the United States Postal service after 21 years of service. He was a member of the Reformed Church of Beacon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Joey Johnson and his wife Mary of Gardiner, New York, Jeffrey Johnson and his wife Molly of Newburgh, New York, David Williams and his wife Loure of Montgomery, New York; a daughter, Jackie Young and her husband John of Bloomingburg, New York; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Jolley of Inman, South Carolina, Martha Bartsch and her husband Peter of Spartanburg, South Carolina; two brothers, Ray Johnson, and Donald Johnson and his wife Nancy all of Inman, South Carolina.
Mr. Johnson was predeceased by three sisters; Mary Lois, Dorothy and Kathleen; and two brothers, Robert and Ralph.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on , Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Buck Creek Baptist Church in Chesnee, South Carolina.
Mr. Johnson's interment service was held in Orange County Veteran's Cemetery in Goshen, New York.
