Humberto "Bert" Prieto, 81, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, in Landrum, South Carolina. Bert was born in Havana, Cuba on May 18, 1936, a son of the late Julio and Julia Prieto. He was the husband of Brenda Hall Prieto. Bert was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, a retired employee of Hoechst Celanese and was working currently as a realtor with Better Homes and Gardens Realty. In addition to his wife, Mr. Prieto is survived by two daughters, Marie Elizabeth Prieto, of California; Theresa De Las Nieves (Tesi) Prieto and her husband, Fred Johnson, of Charleston, South Carolina; two sons Humberto "Tico" Prieto, Jr.and his wife, Karen, of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Andrew T. Prieto and his wife, Rachel, of North Carolina; a step daughter, Paula Smith and her husband, Doug, of Inman, South Carolina; a step son,Tad Varner and his wife, Angela, of Spartanburg, South Carolina; a sister, Mercy Key; three brothers, Julio Prieto, Eduardo Prieto and Nelson Prieto; seven grandchildren, Amber Prieto-Soto, Teagan Prieto, Maggie Brogan, Annie, Heather, Clay Smith, Taylor Smith and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Bert was predeceased by a sister, Sofie Prieto and his canine companion and best friend for twenty years, Dexter.
Visitation will be held, Sunday, September 24, 2017, from 3:00 PM until 3:45 PM, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will follow at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, at 4:00 PM., on Sunday, September 24, 2017, conducted by Rev Gary Byrd. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Landrum, South Carolina. The following men will serve as pallbearers; Roger Hall, Zach Grant, Ricky Grant, Clay Smith, Alister K. Chick, Keven Jaramillo and Chandler Poteat. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church 690 Park Road Inman, South Carolina 29349. The family is at the residence.
