Hugh Mack High, 86, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away Saturday on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg, SC. Born in Spartanburg County on July 5, 1932, he was a son of the late Mary Lillian (Patterson) and Joe Wheeler High, Sr. and was the husband of the late Shirley Ann (Lee) High.
Mr. High was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, attended Clemson University and then went to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After the military he went to work for Milliken Research where he retired after 32 years as manager. Mr. High was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time at the golf course.
He is survived by three daughters, June McBride (Eddie), of Germantown, Maryland; Louisa Blanchard, of Moore, SC and Sherri L. High of Moore, SC; two grandsons, Robert E. Blanchard (Krista) of Lyman, SC and Eddie W. McBride, III of Duncan, SC; two granddaughters, Dale (Dee) M. Blanchard of Wellford, SC and Tiffany L. Bennett (Richard) of Duncan, SC; one great-granddaughter, Gracelyn Sweat of Lyman, SC; one great-grandson, Alex Blanchard of Lyman, SC; one sister, Ann Morrow (Jerome) of Landrum, SC; one brother, Joe W. High (Sarah) of Columbus, TN.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was also predeceased by one sister, Rephilia High Lynn.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 2:00 - 2:45 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Gouge and Rev. Monty King officiating. Burial will be in Fort Prince Memorial Gardens in Wellford, SC with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #45.
