Hubert "Pop" Skinner, 85, of 1431 Hickory Nut Road, Inman, SC, passed away Friday, September 13th, at the Spartanburg Hospital For Restorative Care.
Mr Skinner was born in the Motlow Creek Community on February 15, 1928, a son of the late Beedie (Strange) Skinner and Lee Roy Skinner. "Pop" raised and bred bird dogs from 1948 — 2001, he was a gospel music lover, loved working in the garden and enjoyed life to the fullest.
He was the husband of Ruby (Ravan) Henderson Skinner having married in 2005. He was first married to the late Margaret Ravan Skinner for 54 years.
He was a graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, was formerly employed at Liberty Life Insurance Co for 33 years and then was employed at the Spartanburg County Sheriffs Dept where he received the Reserve Officer of the Year award for a number of years. He was a 60 year member of the Inman Masonic Lodge #201 and a Shriner.
He was a member of Holston Creek Baptist Church where he was a member of the Jim Metcalf Sunday School Class. "Pop" is survived by a daughter, Sherry Emory and son-in-law Carol, a son, Roger Skinner and daughter-in-law Gail, a step daughter, Anne Stewart and step son-in-law Larry. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brandy Emory Parker (Dr. Matt Parker), Ginger Skinner Gosnell (Tony), Brent Skinner, Clay Emory and fiance' Laura Phillips, step grandchildren, Reagan Brigman, Travis Brigman, Josh Stewart (Lauren), Kelly Stewart, great grandchildren, Abby Gosnell, Ally Gosnell, Emma Parker, step great grandchildren, Zach and Lanie Stewart and a number of nieces and nephews he adored. He was predeceased by his siblings, Walter Earl Skinner, Bill Skinner, Ray Skinner, Jeanette Satterfield, Nell Waldrop and Margie Bridwell.
The family is at the home and will receive friends Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 6:00 — 8:00 PM at Seawright Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at Holston Creek Baptist Church, Inman, SC, at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 15th, with Dr Reggie Parker and Rev Donnan Lawson officiating. Honorary escort will be members of the Jim Metcalf Sunday School Class and Spartanburg County Deputies.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman.
