Mrs. Hilda Gowan Mathews

Inman, SC---Mrs. Hilda Gowan Mathews, 74, of 233 Rocky Creek Rd, passed away Tuesday, August 25th, 2009 at the Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg.

Born in Spartanburg , SC on June 18, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Clarence C. and Hester Estell (Newman) Gowan and was the wife of Bennie Edwin Mathews having celebrated 39 years of marriage.

Mrs. Mathews was a member of Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Spartanburg and was also a member of the Women's Sunday School Class and the Ladies Auxilary.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her children: Deborah Cox, Sheila Cox, Terry Cox, Connie Stallworth, Timmy Mathews, Tony Mathews, 1 sister: Dorothy Smith, 1 brother: James Gowan and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister: Juanita Laws.

The family is at the home of Terry Cox, 239 Rocky Creek Rd., Inman and will receive at Seawright Funeral Home on Friday, August 28, 2009 from 12-2PM. Graveside services will be held at 3 PM at Duncan First Baptist Church Cemetery with Joe Scruggs officiating.
