Henry Austin Johnson, 19 Bishop Street, Inman,  was born on November 29, 1936 in the Holston Creek Community, Spartanburg County.  He was a son of  the late Creed Weldon (C.W.) “Red” Johnson and Ruby Hammett Johnson.  He was the husband of Georgia Ford Johnson of Inman, having been married on June 14, 1958. Henry passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of March 19, 2024.
Henry was a proud graduate of Gramling High School, North Greenville Jr. College and Furman University.  He earned his Masters of Divinity Degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and his Doctorate of Divinity in Pastoral Care from New Wine Ministries School of the Bible.
Mr. Johnson was a Baptist minister having served the following churches over the past 60+ years:  Moore Baptist Church, Moore, South Carolina; Sandy Springs Baptist Church, Rutherfordton, North Carolina; Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, Warren County, North Carolina; West Springs Baptist Church, Pauline, South Carolina (2 times); Apalache Baptist Church, Greer, South Carolina; Grace Baptist Church, Spartanburg, South Carolina;  Bethel Baptist Church, Campobello, South Carolina. He also served as interim pastor of Bowmantown Baptist Church, Washington County, Tennessee and Gilead Baptist Church, Jonesville, South Carolina.
Henry was a columnist for the Inman Times Newspaper.  He also entertained senior citizen groups in more than 150 churches across the Carolinas and Tennessee through his “ministry of laughter” and his character “Preacher Pucket with a Bucket”   He enjoyed playing the piano and was an avid letter writer.
Mr. Johnson was the father of Timothy (Tim) Johnson and his wife Pamela (Pam) of Inman  as well as Robyn Cunningham and her husband David of Gaffney.  He was grandfather to Tyler Cunningham and his wife Liz of Gaffney; Lauren McGinnis and her husband Patrick of Inman; Keri Gilfillan and her husband Josh of Gaffney; and Alaina Johnson of Inman.  His greatgrandchildren were Ella, Bennett, Briggs, Ansley, Maddox, Jameson and Eva. He is survived by his sister, Doris J. Forrester of Greer, South Carolina.  He was predeceased by his brother H. Wayne Johnson.
The family will receive friends Wednesday March 20,  2024 from 6pm to 8pm at Seawright Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be held  Thursday March 21, 2024 at 11am at Bethel Baptist Church, Campobello, South Carolina.
The family would like to thank Michael Roark and the staff of Agape Hospice for their services over the past few months.  We would also like to extend our heartfelt love and gratitude to Sharon Durrah, Robin Campbell and Linette Smith who became “honorary Johnsons” as they provided care to Henry and his family.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home.
