Helen Harris
Helen Williams Harris, 98, of Skylyn Place and formerly of 9 Birch Street in Inman, died Saturday, January 9,2010. Born February 8,1911 in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late James Knox Williams and Frances McMillan Williams. She was married for 60 years to the late Wade Garland Harris. She was a faithful member of Inman First Baptist Church where she impacted many lives through her work with youth and children.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by a daughter, Lynn Harris Collins and her husband Randall Finch Collins of Inman. Grandchildren are Meredith Collins Price and her husband, Jacob Lindsey Price of Anderson and Randall Harris Collins and his wife, Anna Kerchmar Collins of Spartanburg. Helen's great grandchildren are Rand Collins, McCulloh Collins, Collins Price and Sharp Price. A sister: Marie W Fleming of Spartanburg also survives her.
Helen graduated from Greenville Women's College, which later became part of Furman University. She taught school at various locations in Spartanburg and Polk Counties. After her teaching career ended, Helen worked in retail sales.
Funeral services will be held at 11:OOAM Tuesday, January 12, 2009 at Inman First Baptist Church conducted by Dr Paul Moore. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church atrium.
The family is at 255 Burntwood Lane in Inman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund of Inman First Baptist Church, 14 N Howard St., Inman, SC 29349.
The family extends deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff at Skylyn Place, which has been Helen's home away from home for the last three years. Also a sincere thanks is extended to the compassionate caregivers from Samaritan's Hospice and Hospice of South Carolina.
