Harold "Buzz" Biggers

Harold Jerome Biggers, 81, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015 at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia. Born in Greenville, SC, Mr. Biggers was the son of the late Whitney Freeman and the late Silda Ballenger Biggers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy White Biggers in 2008, a loss from which he never recovered. Known affectionately as Buzz, he was a graduate of Greenville High School and Furman University, and retired to Inman, SC, as a corporate pilot for Flour Daniel. One of the first pilots hired by what was then known as Piedmont Airlines (now U.S. Airways), Buzz spent many years in the cockpit of various planes and enjoyed a lifetime love of aviation. He was an active member of Inman Baptist Church prior to moving to Lexington, SC to be closer to family.
Mr. Biggers is survived by two sons, David Whitney Biggers, his wife Sharon and their son Logan of Lexington; and Jerome Craig Biggers and his daughter Carolina of Vero Beach Florida; a sister, Sarah Mullins of Spartanburg; a niece Lisa Mullins McLendon and family of Charlotte, NC and nephew Rick Mullins of Spartanburg; and his sons' mother, Patricia Rhudy and her husband Earl, of West Union with whom he remained friends.
An adored father and grandfather, Buzz was well known as the "cool dad" of the neighborhood, entertaining kids with his motorcycle tricks and biting sense of humor. He was also a meticulous gardener with a capable green thumb. He stayed busy with his many walks, runs and frequent hikes of Table Rock, a place he visited every year as a child and a tradition that continues today with his sons and their families. An Army veteran, Buzz enjoyed his association with the American Legion in Inman, as well as the many friends and neighbors of him and Peggy.
Graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville, SC, Tuesday, January 6th at 11:00 o'clock with the Rev. Paul Moore conducting the service. The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends after the service at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 45, P.O. Box 627 Inman, SC 29349 or the Spartanburg County Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301. Seawright Funeral home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
