Grady D. Holden, 81, of 465 A Lyman Lake Road, passed away Monday, July 16, 2018, at his residence. Grady was born in Holly Springs, South Carolina on October 3, 1936, a son of the late Claude Cleveland Holden and Edna Winnie Suddeth Holden. He was the husband of Nancy Walter Holden.
He was a 1968 graduate of Appalachian State University where he received his master's in education. He served in the U.S. Army.
He retired from Spartanburg County School District One where he served as principal at Chapman High School and later worked at the district office, as the coordinator of Administrative Services. He was a member of the Inman Rotary Club, where he had received the Paul Harris Fellow Award, a member of the Kiwanis International and a member of the American Legion Post #45. He served as a Disaster Relief Volunteer following Hurricane Andrew. Grady was a member of Inman United Methodist Church, where over the years, he had served on several committees and offices, including Board of Trustees.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Holden is survived by a daughter, Susan Holden Gilbert, of Inman, South Carolina; a son, Michael C. Holden and his wife, Stephanie, of Inman, South Carolina; a sister, Carolyn Staggs, of Campobello, South Carolina; a brother, Alfred Holden and his wife, Marilyn of Inman, South Carolina. Mr. Holden is also survived by five grandchildren; Cody Gilbert, Kimberly G. McAbee and her husband, Nathaniel, Landon Holden, Asheton Holden and Avery Holden.
Visitation will be held, Thursday, July 19, 2018, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, at Inman United Methodist Church Social Hall. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, on Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Inman United Methodist Church, conducted by with Dr. Richard Dillingham, Mr. Thomas Brannon and Rev. Ed Stallworth. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Inman United Methodist Church, 27 Bishop St., Inman, SC 29349.
The family is at the residence.
