SGM (Ret) Gordon D. Pauly, U.S. Army, Vietnam Veteran, Purple Heart recipient, died Sunday, May 14, 2023, in Inman, SC. Born in 1942 in Garvey, CA, he was 80 years old and predeceased by his wife, Judith Elizabeth Johnson Pauly, parents Harold H Pauly and Dorothy J French Pauly, sister Beverly P Nord, and brother Larry Pauly. He is survived by his daughter, Nona M. Pauly Cheek, her husband James E. Cheek III, grandchildren Lauren N. Cheek and Brandon J. Cheek, and great-grandson, Zane A. Cheek. His son, Gordon D. Pauly, Jr, his wife Ana-Marie R. Pauly, grandchildren Ahlana V. Pauly-Neubarth and Ryan C. Pauly, great-granddaughter, Eve Pauly-Neubarth. sister Donna M. Pauly Murphy. His career included 23 years in the U.S. Army, including combat service in Vietnam with the 86th Combat Engineers BDE, and service in the 3rd Armored Division for Army V Corps. He conducted 21 years of Civilian Service career with the U.S. Navy. He supported many Defense programs and led the initial security retrieval of materials out of the Pentagon due to the 9/11 attack. He will be buried at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, with his wife, in Anderson, SC on May 25, 2023. In lieu of flowers please send a memorial to VFW (SC Local Chapter).
