Gertrude Elizabeth (Hannon) Thompson Ayers,105, passed away Friday, June 27, 2014 in the Regional Hospice home in Spartanburg, SC.
Mrs. Ayers was born in Gramling, SC on May 26, 1909, and was a daughter of the late Juanita Belcher and Samuel Arthur Hannon. She was the widow of Paul Thompson and Cecil Ayers. She was a member of Holston Creek Baptist Church and a former member of First Baptist Church of Valley Falls for 17 years. She was a 1928 graduate of Gramling High School and Mars Hill College Class of 1930. She had retired as a seamstress at Raycord Corp.
Mrs. Ayers was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include three sons, Daniel Eugene Thompson, Sr. of Boiling Springs, SC, Allen Thompson (Barbara) of Chesnee, SC, Ray Ayers of Inman, SC, three daughters, Barbara Brackett of Campobello, SC, Geraldine Eubanks and Carolyn Thompson both of Inman, SC., grandchildren and their spouses include, Dale Brackett, Steve & Cathy Brackett, Kathy & Kevin Mackey, Pat & Coley Sprouse, Donna & J. D. Littlejohn, Peggy & Eric Sprouse, Danny & Shelly Thompson and Andy Wise, Great Grandchildren & spouses are Amy & Donny Sweatland, Joshua & Jacob Brackett, Charles Mackey, Heather Gawlick, Meghanne & Caleb McDaniels, April & Mike Brannon, Ryan and Shannon Eubanks, Lauren Sprouse, Caleb Sprouse, Daniel, Dylan & Reece Thompson, Kim Hyatt, Matthew Bailey, Brandon Fowler, Skylar Wise, & Steve Ayers, Great Great Grandchildren are Ryan & Mekayla Sweatland, Jonathan Brackett, Christopher Matthew Gawlick, Alexandria Marie Gawlick, Penelope McDaniels, Keiliegh Brannon , Deegan Eubanks & Brittany Smith. She was predeceased by four sisters, Evelyn Windhan, Rosa Stott, Fannie & Essie Hannon & two brothers, Curtiss and Dean Hannon, son in law, John Brackett, daughter in law, Ann Thompson, son Kenneth Ayers, grandson, Mike Eubanks & granddaughter, Charlene Wise,
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Holston Creek Bapist Church conducted by Dr. Reggie Parker & Rev. Donnan Lawson, The family will receive friends one hour before the services in the sanctuary. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
