Inman, SC---Mrs. Geraldine Walden Bishop Zimmerman, 92, of 167 Wingo Street, Inman, passed away Friday morning, January 21, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Inman, Mrs. Zimmerman was born August 15, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Rowland Herbert Bishop, Sr. and Gladys Walden Bishop of Inman, and the granddaughter of Elijah Independence Bishop, the first mayor of Inman. Mrs. Zimmerman was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Hydrick Dean Zimmerman, Sr. She was also predeceased by her brother, R.H. Bishop, Jr., and her sister, Jimmie Lou Bishop Brown, both of Inman.
Mrs. Zimmerman graduated from Furman University in 1939 with a B.A. in Music. She received her Masters of Arts in Teaching from Converse College in 1969. She was a first grade teacher at Inman Elementary School, retiring in 1980 after 25 years of teaching. Mrs. Zimmerman served as pianist and organist at Inman First Baptist Church for many years before becoming a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and the Jannings Dill Sunday School Class. Mrs. Zimmerman was a former member of the Inman Junior Women's Club and the Inman Better Homes and Garden Club, where she served as President.
Survivors include her three children, Hydrick Dean Zimmerman, Jr. of Inman, Geraldine " Geri" Ruth Zimmerman Warren and her husband J. Steve Warren of Greenville, and Herbert Warren Zimmerman, Sr. and his wife Margaret Wingo Zimmerman of Inman; four grandchildren, Leah Zimmerman Rollins and her husband Jason of Inman, John S. Warren, Jr. and his wife Courtney of Greenville, Herbert "Bert" W. Zimmerman, Jr. and his wife Savannah of Charleston, and David Zimmerman Warren of Los Angeles; and five great grandchildren, Ben Elijah Rollins, John Thomas Rollins, William Paden Rollins, Lillian Tosca Zimmerman, and Eliot Samuel Whitfield Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday January 23, 2011, at Holly Springs Baptist Church with the Dr. Tim Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the Inman First Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 pm at the Holly Springs Baptist Church prior to the funeral services. The family will be at 240 Burntwood Lane, Inman and 504 Hidden Hills Drive, Greenville.
