Gerald Dean Mathis, 73, of Highway 9 Campobello, passed away Saturday, September 30th, at Russell State Park in Elberton, GA.
He was born in Polk County, NC on August 10, 1944, a son of the late Maude Pack Mathis and Furman Mathis and was the husband of Martha Brissie Mathis. He was an employee of Lava USA, Inc., and a member of Three Pines Golf Course in Woodruff. He enjoyed golfing, tending to his lawn, and gardening.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a son, Todd Mathis (Allison); two daughters, Deanna Triplett, Amy Strawbridge (Matt); a brother, Garland Mathis (Bonnie), all of Campobello; a sister, Dorothy Walker of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren, Clayton and Thomas Mathis, Aaron, Nathan, and Ethan Triplett, Grace, Sydney, and Madelyn Strawbridge.
A memorial service will be held at New Prospect Baptist Church at 5:00 on Thursday, October 5th, with Rev. Matthew Bishop officiating. The family is at the home of Todd Mathis at 9961 Highway 9, New Prospect and will receive friends Thursday following the memorial service at New Prospect Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Tee Upstate (youth golfing program) PO Box 817 Greenville, SC 29601 or New Prospect Baptist Church Youth and Children's Ministry, 9321 Highway 9, Inman, SC 29349.
