Inman, SC---George "Jr" Gibson Mathis, Jr, 87, of 111 Brock Street Inman, SC, passed away Tuesday, April 10th, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Gramling, SC on October 24, 1924, he was the son of the late George G. Mathis, Sr. and Lettie Roddy Mathis.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and retired from Fluor Daniel Corporation where he worked as a mechanic.
He is survived by his daughter, Trudy Morrow and her husband Johnny of Inman, SC; a son, John G. Mathis of Colorado; one brother, Paul Mathis and his wife Dot of Gramling,SC; two sisters, Margie Tucker of Spartanburg and Lorene Phillips and her husband James of Inman; and a sister-in-law,
Louise Mathis of Gramling, SC; five grandchildren, Wendy Duke and her husband Scott of Spartanburg, Heather Morrow of Spartanburg, Jenny Blanton and her husband Seth of Spartanburg, Shawn Mathis and Kirsten Navarro; and five great-grandchildren, Savannah Duke, J.P. Duke, Drew Blanton, Samuel Blanton and Conner Blanton. He was predeceased by one brother, Harold Mathis.
Graveside services will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens at 11 :OOAM on Friday, April 13th, with Dr. Reggie Parker officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
