Gary N Hamrick

Gary Hamrick, 86, of Spartanburg, SC passed away on March 24, 2025, at Spartanburg Medical Center after a brief illness.

Son of the late Norris & Georgia Hamrick of Spindale, NC, Gary was born in Greenville, SC & raised in Spindale. He graduated from Central High School, Class of 1958 and married his high school sweetheart, Jama Sue Lineberger. He enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Benning, GA and served as a specialized licensing technician on two-way radios, rising to Sgt. E-6 and later serving in the Army Reserves. After moving to Spartanburg, he began working at the Spartanburg City Communications Department, serving as manager and salesman throughout his career in communications. After retirement, he served as a courier for Shertech Pharmacy for 17 years. Mr. Hamrick enjoyed fishing, traveling, trap shooting, and especially enjoyed repairing electronics. He was an active mason at the Roebuck Lodge for many years and was pinned for 50 years of service. He previously served as a deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was very active in many church committees.

Mr. Hamrick was predeceased by his wife of twenty-seven years, Jama Sue, and his wife Peggy, of twenty-eight years, his sister Broma Jean Harrigan, brothers Hugh, Miles & Wyman Hamrick, daughter Jeanisa Moore, and stepdaughter Judith Smith. He is survived by a sister, Gail Britt, son Greg (Amy), daughter Jackie Smith (Bobby), stepsons Keith and Tim (Jane) and stepdaughter Alisa Haithcock (Greg).

Mr. Hamrick is survived by ten grandchildren, Kimerli Jones (Richard), Jama Sanford (Travis), Kelli Foster (Tyler), Matthew Hamrick, Melody Fletcher (Jeff), Erica DeHart, Kyle Martin (Kimberly), Hunter Haithcock, Colby Hamrick (Karley) & Tyman Hamrick (Taylor).

Mr. Hamrick is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren, Olivia & Austin Smith, Reese & Landon Foster, Audrey & Josephine Sanford, Colton DeHart, Nathan, River & Eli Martin, Annalisa & Adalee Fletcher, Ellie Hamrick & Declan Hamrick.

Many thanks to Mr. Hamrick’s special friend, Peggy Gowens, for sharing her love, meals, advice, & fellowship in times of trouble.

Special recognition to Mr. Hamrick’s niece and nephew, Elizabeth Harrigan Crawford and Daniel Harrigan of Japan.

Thank you to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Young At Heart group for many years of fun, love, and fellowship for our dear Pawpaw.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Hamrick requested donations in his memory to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Bus Fund, 842 Mt. Zion Road, Spartanburg, SOuth Carolina 29303.

A memorial service, will be held Sunday April 13,2025 at 3:00 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the family receiving friends following the service. The family will be at their respective homes.

In Mr. Hamrick’s own words when preparing his final plans “Anything will work for me – I’ll already be in HEAVEN!”.
