Furman Babb was born on February 12, 1933 and passed away on January 6, 2026, after a life rich with love, laughter, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. Though he traveled the world and experienced many places, his favorite place was always home, surrounded by the people he loved most.
Furman never met a stranger. Whether you knew him for a lifetime or only a few moments, he had a way of making you feel welcome, valued, and genuinely cared for. He possessed a rare kindness, a generous heart, and an unmistakable warmth that stayed with people long after they crossed his path. Giving back to his community was not just something he did, it was who he was. His dedication to service was recognized by local legislation, and his many years of involvement with the Shriners, including proudly serving as president for several years, were among his most meaningful accomplishments.
Above all else, Furman loved his family and without condition. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and William Babb, his beloved wife, Janice Babb, his brothers, George, Alvin, Paul, Edward, Johnny, and Glynn Babb; his sisters, Frances Paulos and Mildred Mawhirter; and his sons, Eric Babb and Marty Babb.
Furman was a proud father to six sons; Randy Babb (Patti), Ronnie Babb, Bobby Babb (Pam), and Jason Bryant (Clesta), along with his late sons, Eric Babb (Tonya) and Marty Babb (Jackie). Being a father was a role he cherished, but being a grandfather was his greatest joy. His face lit up whenever he spoke of his grandchildren; Dawn Nix (Chris), Justin Babb (Brea), Jamie Babb (Kevin), Damon Babb (Taylor), Dustin Babb (Morgan), Jonas Babb, Dacey Bryant, and Corey Staggs (Becca). He treasured every moment spent with them and took immense pride in each of their lives. He is also survived by four sisters, Kathleen Collins, Earline Morris (Dale), Shirley Nodine, and Ruth Evington.
In his later years, Furman found profound happiness in his great-grandchildren; Jorja Babb, Anison Roberts, Forbes Roberts, and Little Furman. They were his sunshine; and he devoted his time, love, and energy to them wholeheartedly, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
Furman was a local business owner and entrepreneur, founding and building Furman Babb Painting through dedication, integrity, and relentless hard work. He believed deeply in honesty, perseverance, and treating people right. He held a special place in his heart for those who worked alongside him and helped make his company successful, valuing them not just as employees, but as extended family.
He also leaves behind his loyal and beloved dog, Sir Van, who was rarely far from his side, often in his arms providing companionship and comfort.
Furman's legacy is one of love, service, generosity, and strength. It lives on in his family he adored, the many lives he touched, and the example he set by always showing up for others. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
