Franklin Wilden "Bill" VanDerbeck, 79, of 621 Regency Dr. died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews . Born in Bridgeton, New Jersey on July 30, 1929, he was the husband of Helen Clayton VanDerbeck for 48 years. He was the son of the late Franklin Wilden VanDerbeck, Sr. and Bertha Whitaker VanDerbeck. He was the fifth great grandson of Henry Bitter, A German Hessian, who elected to stay in New Jersey after the Revolutionary War.
Mr VanDerbeck graduated with a BS in Business Administration from Drexel University in Philadelphia in 1952 and marketed business systems and computers for the Burroughs Corporation and SCM for 28 years. This was followed by 15 years of commercial construction and development. He held a Commercial General Contractors License and a Commercial Real Estate
Brokers License.
In addition to his wife survivors include a step daughter: Patricia Cochran Cooksey of Gaffney, SC,
step granddaughters: Katie Cooksey Peake; Kelly Lynn Cooksey both of Columbia, SC, and step great granddaughter: Madison Bailey Peake of Columbia, SC
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman with Father Michael McCafferty officiating.
The family will be at 141 Brittany Rd., Gaffney, S. C.
