Frances Ann Woodfin
Frances Ann White Woodfin, 92, of 150 Carolina Sky Drive, Inman, SC, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum. Born in Spartanburg County on October 7, 1929, Frances was the daughter of the late Howard White and Grace Littlefield White. She graduated from Inman High School and received an Associate Degree in Business from Winthrop College. Upon graduating she went to work for Cudd and Coan Insurance Company until she began the true vocation of her life, taking care of her husband, Harvey Zane Woodfin, family, and friends. Among Frances's considerable skills, she was especially known for her cooking. Her holiday food spreads were legendary, leaving memories for the grandchildren that will never be matched. There are many Inman families who were the recipients of the homemade casseroles and desserts that she prepared and froze, ready to be pulled out at a moment's notice in case of an illness or a death.
In later years, after her children were raised, Frances worked first as a substitute teacher for District One Schools then as a secretary for Rock Hill Baptist Church. She and Zane enjoyed a long and happy retirement together in the house they built on top of Little Mountain. They loved their beautiful mountain view, their horses, their birds, Clemson football, but mostly their family, friends, and neighbors. They also were faithful members of Inman First Baptist Church where Frances especially appreciated her Sunday School class, the Lydia Faith Class.
Frances was predeceased by Zane, her husband of 64 years, her granddaughter, Susan Hodge, and her brother, Donald White. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Donnie Hodge of Landrum, SC; her daughter and son-in-law Jean and Mike Sutton of Columbia, SC; her daughter and son-in-law Lynn and Gary Lee of Charleston, SC; her seven grandchildren Elizabeth Ponder (Will), Troy Hodge, Emily Hodge, Morgan Schaeffer (Chase), Adam Lee (Charlotte), Connor Lee, and Russell Lee; her great-grandchildren Wyatt Ponder, Anneliese Ponder, Charlotte Ponder, and Margot Schaeffer. She has one surviving brother, Allen White (Jennie).
The family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers who made it possible for Frances to remain in her beloved home in the last years of her life. These include Brenda Pierce, Frances Henson, P J Mitchem, Lauren Holden, Frances Shults, Jane Stout, Brenda Babb, Vicky Slobada and many others. Also the family is grateful for the compassionate, professional services provided by Comfort Keepers of Spartanburg , Agape Hospice, and the Upstate Community Hospice House of Landrum.
