Francell Betty Phillips

Francell Phillips, 92, formerly of Seymour, TN, died Monday, September 18, 2023 at Lakewood Senior Living, Boiling Springs.
Francell was born in Wellford, S.C. on August 16, 1931 to the late Isham Vernon and Evie (nee Brittain) Coleman.  A graduate of Winthrop College, Francell worked for the TVA making maps in Chattanooga, TN.  She married Melroe Clayton Phillips on January 21, 1956.  When they moved to Oscoda, MI, she began working as a civilian for Wurtsmith AFB, first as a draftsman, briefly as a housing officer, and finally as the Director of the Craft Department where she made many friends and taught classes in such things as tole painting and stained glass.  A driven artist, Francell filled her home with her creations and loved making things for friends and family, especially ceramics, paintings, and applique quilts.  Always busy, she also canned, sewed, traveled, and read voraciously.  She enjoyed crossword and sudoku puzzles and nature, especially birds, her favorite being the cardinal.
