Elsie Mae Poteat, 89, of Miller Farm Road in Inman, passed away Tuesday, August 6th, 2024 at Spartanburg Medical Center.
Mrs. Poteat was born in Inman on October 2, 1934, a daughter of the late Almina Corn McDowell and Joseph Lamar McDowell. She was the widow of Horace Poteat Jr.
She enjoyed working in the lunchroom at Fairforest Middle School for several years and was also a homemaker and member of Lake Bowen Baptist Church in Inman.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Dill and her husband, Steve, of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Betty Phillips and her husband, David, of Hilton Head, South Carolina; five sons Cecil Poteat and his wife, Sherry of Inman, South Carolina; Gene Poteat and his wife, Lorraine of Wilmington, North Carolina; Steve Poteat and his wife, Cindy of Inman, South Carolina; David Poteat, of Inman, South Carolina and Scott Poteat of Boiling Springs, South Carolina. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two sisters in law, Peggy McDowell and Naomi McDowell. She was the last survivor of her immediate family being predeceased by four brothers, Wayne McDowell, Larry McDowell, Joe McDowell (Ruby), Carl McDowell and a sister, Lucille Terry (James).
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 10th at Seawright Funeral Chapel in Inman with Rev. Bill Harris officiating. Burial will be in Lake Bowen Baptist Church Cemetery in Inman.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
