Elna Hall Hammett

Miss Elna Hall Hammett, longtime resident of 18 Gosnell Avenue, Inman,
SC, died Saturday, August 29, 2009, at Rosecrest Retirement Community. She was born March 1, 1915, in the Inman community, and was the daughter of the late A. K. and Sunie Hall Hammett. She was a lifetime member of Inman First
Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Inman High School and Robinson Business School and was employed by Life of Virginia Insurance Company for over 40 years.
Survivors include her sister, Margaret H. New of Dublin, GA, and brothers Robert A. Hammett of Spartanburg and Ted B. Hammett of Inman. She was predeceased by three brothers, W. Harold Hammett, Earl R. Hammett, and Wilbur K. Hammett, all of Inman, and two sisters, Louise H. Matthews of Washington, DC, and Helen H. Cullen of Charlotte, NC.
Even though she never married or had children of her own, Elna was loved and appreciated by her 22 nieces and nephews and their children and was generally considered to be the matriarch of her family.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at Inman First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Paul G. Moore officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church atrium. Interment will follow in the Inman Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews: Ted Hammett II, James M. Cullen, Thomas E. Hammett, William R. Hammett, Robert Hammett, Jr., and David H. Hammett.
