Edward M. Shipman

Edward M. Shipman, beloved husband and father, 78, of 1170 Peach Valley Cir. Spartanburg, passed away Tuesday, September 24th, at his residence.
Mr. Shipman was born in Hendersonville, NC on November 3, 1934, a son of the late Fannie Louise Staton Shipman and Grady Marion Shipman.
He was the husband of Sarita Woodward Shipman, and was first married to the late Betty Lou Rhymer Shipman. He retired from Ryder Truck Rentals with 25 years of service. He was a faithful member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Spartanburg, and had served his country in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters; Rebecca Ann Griffith of Greer, Wanda Kay Farmer of Greer, Theresa Lynn Shipman of Travelers Rest, Bobbie Jo Bright and husband Randy of Greer, a brother; Robert Gene Shipman and wife Lois of Huntersville, N.C., nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He had a great love for life, and enjoyed several hobbies; including flower gardening and fishing. He was a thrill seeker and went skydiving for the first time at the age of 73.
A memorial service will be held at St. Matthews Episcopal Church 101 St. Matthews Lane, Spartanburg, at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 26th, with Father Rob Brown officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to St. Matthews Food Pantry, 101 St. Matthews Lane, Spartanburg, S.C. 29301.
