Edith Metcalf Boyter, 89, of 1780 Hannon Road, Inman, passed away Friday, January 18th, at Ashlan Village.
Edith was born in Edneyville, NC on April 24, 1929, a daughter of the late Marie Johnson Metcalf and William Hobart Metcalf. She was the widow of Ben Henry Boyter.
She lovingly gave years of service to multiple organizations including her church, Holston Creek Baptist Church, where she had served as the director of WMU, Sunbeams, Girls in Action, and Baptist Young Women. She was also a faithful volunteer to the Holston Creek Bereavement Committee, Nursery, Good News Club, and Summer Missions Team. She touched many young adult minds as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher, serving well into her 70's. Edith was proud to be a member of the Holston Creek Baptist Church Choir, and later served and traveled with the Ashlan Choir. She had also served as a faithful hospice volunteer. She was one of the first women to earn a Computer Programming Degree from Spartanburg Technical College in 1965. This led to her almost 30 year employment with Inman Mills, as a computer programmer. She was affectionately known as Aunt Edith to her many nieces and nephews, and grandma, mema, or mawmaw to many others. In her retirement, she and her husband, Henry, loved to travel with Christian Tours, and were proud to have visited every US state.
She is survived by her daughter; Kaye B. Rollins and her husband, Keith from Inman, her son; Keith Boyter and his wife, Vicki, of Charlotte, three grandchildren; Melanie B. Weaver and her husband Joey, Jonathon Rollins and his wife, Deana, and Jason Rollins and his wife, Leah. She was also survived her great grandchildren; Ben, Jonah, Micah, John Thomas, and Paden. In addition to her parents and husband, Edith was also predeceased by five brothers; Fred, Jim, Bill, Reg, and Talmadge Metcalf, and a sister; Margaret Foster.
The family is at the home and will receive friends 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, January 19th at Seawright Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 20th at Holston Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Reggie Parker officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

The family extends their heart felt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Ashlan Village for their love, dedication, and help to Edith during her time there.
