Inman, SC---Dr. David Clark Burdge, 76, of 157 Harbor St. passed away Thursday, July 12th, at Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg, S.C. Dr. Burdge was born October 9, 1935 in Long Branch, N. J. and was the son of the late Everett Elijah and Amy Elizabeth (Clark) Burdge. He was the husband of Phyllis Freeman Osborne and was an obstetrician/ gynecologist at Hillcrest Hospital in Simpsonville, SC. and the Greenville S. C. area. Dr. Burdge served his country in the US Army as a medical officer during the Vietnam War. He was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed playing his music in various venues throughout his life. Most recently he played at the Dutch Plate Restaurant in Campobello, SC. He was an active member of Inman First Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school teacher and avid worker in the Backpack Ministries. Through this program, lunches are provided to needy children. He was also affiliated with the Feline Lifeline organization.
Surviving in addition to his wife Phyllis are two sons, Steven Burdge of Simpsonville, SC, Brandon Burdge of Atlanta, Ga., two daughters, Lisa Burdge of Boone, NC, Sommer Burdge of Atlanta, Ga. two brothers, Ron Burdge and his wife Linda of Annapolis, Md., and Roger Burdge and his wife Gracie of Haleyville, Alabama.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Inman First Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Paul Moore and Rev. Jeremiah Childers. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour before the service in the church atrium. The family will be at their respective homes.
