Dorothy Blemline Heffner Houghton, 87, of 5930 NW 60th Terrace Ocala, FL. went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 at Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg, SC.
Mrs. Houghton was born in Reading, Penn. on July 6, 1921 the daughter of the late Wayne and Anna Blimline Heffner. Her stepmother, Annie Heffner, also predeceased her.
She was the wife of Robert Houghton,celebrating 61 years of marriage. Other survivors include four daughters, Sharon Ficek and husband Don of Michigan, Susan Proctor and husband Marlow of Maryland, Beth Ann Houghton of Texas, Betsy Hawkins and her husband Bill of Woodruff, six sons, Ronald Houghton and wife Patty of Maryland, Timothy Houghton and wife Joy of Tennessee, Raymond Houghton of Virginia, David Houghton and wife Vicki of Florida, Wayne Houghton and wife Sharon of Tennessee, Robert "Bob" Houghton, Jr. and wife Joanne of Inman, 25 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
She was a member of Agape Baptist Church in Ocala, Florida and was a homemaker. She enjoyed children and grandchildren and was very active in childrens' ministries. She was a hospice volunteer in Florida and enjoyed her own "Care Bear" ministry to children.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, July 17th, with family members participating.
The family is at the homes of Bob and Joanne Houghton at 1708 Compton Bridge Road, Inman, and Betsy and Bill Hawkins, 2228 Cross Anchor Road, Woodruff and will receive friends Thursday 6-7:00pm. at Seawright Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice 120 Heywood Ave., Suite 300 Spartanburg, SC 29302.
