Mrs. Doris Alverson Smith, 90, of Chesnee, died Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Summer Place Assisted Living in Boiling Springs. She was born in Gowensville, SC on July 3, 1920 to the late Young and Edna Reid Alverson. She was a member of Arrowwood Baptist Church for almost 60 years, was a member of the WMU, and taught Sunday school for a number of years. She also worked in the Chesnee School System and was a Mobile Meals volunteer.

She was preceded in death by her husband Boyce Luther Smith, Jr., her brother Edward Alverson, and her sister Mary Turner.

She is survived by three sons: Boyce and his wife Barbara; David and his wife Jan; Jim and his wife Jan; two daughters: Peggy and her husband Richard Band; Susan and her husband Barry Moore. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Mike Brown and wife Michelle; Shari and husband Clay Legette; Lindsay and husband Trippett Boineau; Tad Smith and wife Sylvia; Dena Band; Zach Smith and wife Leona; Jeff Band; Sara Smith; Morgan Smith; Grace Moore; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM , Saturday, November 6 at
Arrowwood Baptist Church, Chesnee, SC conducted by Pastor Daniel Godfrey. The family will receive friends in the church following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Arrowwood Baptist Church, 1410 Highway 11 W, Chesnee, SC 29323.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Summer Place for their loving care during the past five years.
