Doris Anderson Brown, 95, widow of William Marshall Brown, of Ashlan Village Retirement Community entered into rest on August 28, 2016. Mrs. Brown was born, June 7, 1921, in Columbia County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Luther and Sarah Percivol Anderson. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of ten sisters and brothers. Doris was a graduate of Harlem High School in Georgia, attended Middle Georgia University and Young Harris College. She met and married her late husband of sixty three years, Marshall Brown, when he returned home after his service in the United States Navy during World War II. They made their home in Inman, South Carolina. After raising her family, she attended and received a degree in accounting from Cecil's Business College and worked for Blowers Transfer / United Van Lines and the City of Inman. She was a certified teacher for Adult Education and taught Literacy, General Education, and English as a second language. Doris was a past Department President of the American Legion Auxiliary and on the staff of The Palmetto Girls State for over thirty six years. She gave many hours to worthy causes. Some closest to her heart were Mobile Meals and serving veterans at the VA hospital. Doris was a long time member of Inman First Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and as the WMU director for ten years.
Her family was the center of her life. She is survived by three sons; Dr. William T. Brown and his wife Valerie of Johnson City. Tennessee, Randy A. Brown and his wife Kay of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, Jimmy M. Brown and his wife Teresa, of Inman, South Carolina, three granddaughters; Sierra Street and her husband Adam of Johnson City, Tennessee, Alyson Thornton and her husband Andrew of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, Emily Brown of Inman, South Carolina and one great granddaughter; Caroline Avery Street. Visitation will be held, Wednesday, August 31, 2016, from 1:00 PM until 2:45 PM at Inman First Baptist Church in the church atrium. Funeral Services will be conducted by Dr. Paul Moore and Rev. Jeremiah Childers at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Inman First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be:Tom Merz, Jim Merz, Adam Street, Andrew Thornton, Lawrence Morrow and Mickey Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to, Inman First Baptist Church, 14 N. Howard Street, Inman, SC 29349. The families are at their respective homes.
