Donald A. Prewette, age 73, went to live with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 26, 2010. He passed away due to complications from open-heart surgery. He was born September 20, 1937 in Inman, South Carolina. The most important thing in his life was making a decision to live for Jesus Christ. Samuel Campbell helped him make that decision December 10, 1942.
Donald graduated from Chapman High School in Inman, S.C. in 1955. After high school he entered the U.S. Naval School of Music in Washington, D.C. and then played in U.S. Navy bands from 1955 through 1958. He had the honor of playing "Taps" numerous times at Arlington National Cemetery. He later received his Associates Degree from North Greenville Junior College, a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Furman University, and a Master's Degree in Music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He became an ordained minister and loved to serve the Lord and people in the local church. He served as Minister of Music, Church Administrator, Associate Pastor, and Pastor throughout his career. He served at North Conway Baptist Church (Conway, S.C.), Beecher Hills Baptist Church for 22 years from 1973-1995 (Atlanta, GA), Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church (Atlanta, GA), and Perkerson Baptist Church (Atlanta, GA). He and his wife retired to Bellingham, WA in 2004.
Donald's interests were diverse. He was a Boy Scout as a child as well as a Boy Scout leader. He sang with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus for four years and played the trumpet for much of his life. He was a Life Member of the Inman Masonic Lodge No. 201; 32 Scottish Rite Masonry, Valley of Atlanta Orient of Georgia; and Yaarab Shriners of Atlanta, GA. He loved spending time with his wife, ballroom dancing, and leading Bible studies. He also adored his grandchildren and enjoyed getting to spend time with them.
