Dennis Earl Pike

Boiling Springs, SC---Mr. Dennis Earl Pike, Sr., 76, of 239 Apple Branch Lane passed away following a sudden illness on Sunday, January 16th, 2011 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital in Spartanburg.

Born in Inman, SC on February 25, 1934, he was the son of the late Mrs. Frances Wright and the loving husband of Mrs. Nancy (Geer) Pike having celebrated 49 years of marriage.

Mr. Pike was a graduate of Inman High school class of 1952 and was an Honor Graduate of Wofford College class of 1959 where he received a Bachelor's degree in Science. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War Conflict and was a recipient of the Navy Marine Corps Medal of honor after actions of heroism for attempting to save the life of a fellow service man in the North Atlantic Sea. Mr. Pike was also an active volunteer for Mobile Meals of Spartanburg and was an active member of the Spartanburg Chapter Lion Club.

He retired in 1996 from Univar Corporation in Spartanburg after 38 years of continuous service where he worked as the National Accounts Manager and was a member of Gramling United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dennis Earl Pike, Jr. and his wife Wata of Chester, VA and Jason Geer Pike and his wife Beverly of Lorton, VA; one daughter, Beth Ann Pike Bagwell and her husband Phil of Boiling Springs, SC; two sisters, Mary Lou McLean and Sarah Evans of Hendersonville, NC; two brothers, Vickie Wright of Hendersonville, NC and Nicholas Wright of Suitland, MD and three grandchildren, Nathan Pike Bagwell, Caroline Geer Bagwell and Chantel Jade Pike and a most loved cousin Mr. Fred Pike of Atlanta, GA.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from 1-2PM at Seawright Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2:00PM in the Seawright Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ben Herlong and Mr. Russell Goodwin officiating. Burial with Military Honors conducted by the Rutherford County Honor Guard will be in Gramling United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gramling, SC.
